North Carolina events › Where To Eat › Eat Near Downtown Asheville And The River Arts District
Short answer: Seven Asheville places to start, each read on its own site: Cúrate, Posana and Chestnut on Biltmore Avenue, Mela on North Lexington Avenue, Biscuit Head, and two River Arts District stops. Five publish hours we could read; two do not, and are marked Not confirmed.

How we checked: the home pages of Cúrate, Posana, Chestnut, Mela, Biscuit Head, The Bull & Beggar and Ultra Coffeebar, plus the Buxton Hall and Rhubarb pages for closures. Sites for Tupelo Honey and Early Girl Eatery returned security blocks and were not read. All read on November 3, 2026. Hours, prices, rules, closures and road status change, so check the named agency or business before you rely on them. Anything we could not read is marked Not confirmed where it appears. This page lists places to eat only; we left out bars, breweries and nightlife on purpose, and we give no ratings or rankings. These are places to start, not a ranking: no source we read ranks them, and we did not taste, rate or compare. General guidance on this page is labelled as general guidance. This is not safety, medical or legal advice; where a safety or legal rule appears, the quoted words are the official source’s own.
These are the places we could verify, not a complete list of Asheville dining. Reservation-engine pages are not linked; each link goes to the restaurant’s own site, and you book there.

What These Seven Sites Tell You
Asheville’s two food centers are a short list on paper: the downtown blocks around Biltmore Avenue, and the River Arts District, the riverside stretch of former industrial buildings now used by studios, galleries and kitchens. We read each restaurant’s own site on November 3, 2026, and we copied only what the page said. Three of the downtown places share a street: Cúrate (13 Biltmore Avenue), Posana (1 Biltmore Avenue) and Chestnut (48 Biltmore Avenue), going by the street addresses their sites give. We did not measure how long it takes to walk between them, and no site we read gives a distance, so we are not guessing.
Hours matter more than usual here. Posana’s downtown dining room is closed Monday and Tuesday and serves dinner only, while its other location serves lunch and brunch, so reading the right location’s hours is the difference between a plan and a locked door. Chestnut serves brunch every day and dinner every night, with no closing time on its page. Mela publishes both a lunch buffet window and separate dinner hours. Cúrate and The Bull & Beggar did not show hours in the text we could read, so they are marked Not confirmed.
Two Closures We Found
Guides written a few years ago often include places that no longer operate. Buxton Hall Barbecue’s own site says it is permanently closed, with its last day of service on November 22, 2023. Rhubarb’s site shows a “Now Closed” banner reading “Thank you, Asheville” with no date. We did not list either as a place to eat. Check a restaurant’s own site before you build a day around it.
Pairing a Meal With a Neighborhood
General guidance: if your day is on foot downtown, start from our Downtown Asheville profile and our Asheville guide, then pick a meal by the hours above. If you are visiting studios, begin at the River Arts District profile and plan a coffee or lunch stop there; the River Arts District places on this page are Ultra Coffeebar and The Bull & Beggar, which tags its posts with the district. The Asheville weekend itinerary shows how a two-day plan can fit meals around the sights.
