Brevard is the waterfall town at the edge of Pisgah National Forest. Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls, DuPont State Recreational Forest and Gorges State Park are close by, and Brevard Music Center runs a winter concert series. Hours, fees and current Helene closures come from official pages.

About Brevard
Brevard is the seat of Transylvania County. The City of Brevard describes it as sitting in a quiet Blue Ridge valley known for music, festivals, shops and waterfalls, with Pisgah National Forest on its doorstep.
Sliding Rock is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for $6 a person (5 and under free), with lifeguards only Memorial Day to Labor Day, per the Forest Service. At DuPont State Recreational Forest, Hurricane Helene closures continue: the Triple Falls stairs and the Turkey Knob bridge had no reopening date on November 3, 2026.

Getting There
From Uptown Charlotte: about 2 h 44 min, 128 miles. From downtown Asheville: about 49 min, 34 miles. From Asheville, US 280 and US 64 run southwest past the airport to Brevard; from Hendersonville, US 64 west.

Is Sliding Rock open?
The Forest Service lists Sliding Rock open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, weather and water permitting, $6 a person. Lifeguards and restrooms are there only Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Are DuPont's waterfalls open after Helene?
Partly. On November 3, 2026 the Triple Falls stairs and the Turkey Knob bridge were closed with no reopening date, and the High Falls kiosk path was set to close November 6 for tree work. Check the NC Forest Service closures page first.
When is White Squirrel Weekend?
Not confirmed. We could not read the Explore Brevard calendar, so we do not list a date.
