Short answer: Five trip guides explain how to do the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville, the Outer Banks and Cape Hatteras, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, Biltmore Estate and Wright Brothers National Memorial. Each shows what the official page said on November 3, 2026, and marks anything we could not read.

How we checked: each guide’s own source list, which names the National Park Service, Biltmore, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and the NCDOT Ferry Division. All read on November 3, 2026. Hours, prices, rules, closures and road status change, so check the named agency or business before you rely on them. Anything we could not read is marked Not confirmed where it appears. We link agencies’ and operators’ own pages and nothing that earns us a commission. General guidance on this page is labelled as general guidance. This is not safety, medical or legal advice; where a safety or legal rule appears, the quoted words are the official source’s own.
How to Choose
Pick by the time you have. Wright Brothers National Memorial is a stop of an hour or two. Biltmore and the railroad each take most of a day, and Biltmore needs a reserved House entry time. The Parkway and the Outer Banks are drives that you shape around road and ferry conditions, so they work best when you have a flexible day and check the official status page first.
Mountain trips (Parkway, railroad, Biltmore) fit an Asheville base: see our Asheville guide. The coastal trips fit the Outer Banks. If you have a weekend, start from our itineraries and our North Carolina itinerary ladder, then use these pages for the details of each stop.
Safety and Closures
Closures, road status, ferry service and beach access change daily, and we quote the official agency rather than guess. Our travel alerts page collects the official status links. For a historic angle on the same regions, see historic tours, and for where to eat on your route, see where to eat.
Tribal Sites
The attractions of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are on the tribe’s own sites. We link them from our Tribal Nations page and build nothing about them here.
