North Carolina events › Destinations › South End Charlotte

Short answer: South End is a Charlotte neighborhood just outside Uptown, linked to it by the LYNX Blue Line, per Charlotte’s Got a Lot, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority’s guide. It describes a Rail Trail lined with restaurants and murals and the 1892 Atherton Cotton Mills, now a dining and retail destination.

How we checked: Charlotte’s Got a Lot (the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority), Charlotte Center City Partners and the NASCAR Hall of Fame page (each linked in Sources). A South End association site was not found among the official pages we could read. All read on November 3, 2026. Hours, prices, rules, closures and road status change, so check the named agency or business before you rely on them. Anything we could not read is marked Not confirmed where it appears. General guidance on this page is labelled as general guidance. This is not safety, medical or legal advice; where a safety or legal rule appears, the quoted words are the official source’s own.

What It Is

Charlotte’s Got a Lot describes South End as a vibrant and bustling destination, rooted in history, just outside Uptown. It says the area dates back to the discovery of gold on what is now West Morehead Street in the 1800s. Charlotte Center City Partners, the organization behind the city’s center-city vision plan, describes the downtown core as the economic, social and cultural heart of the region; its page does not describe South End by name, so we use the visitors authority for the neighborhood itself.

We could not find an official South End association page we could read. The address charlottesouthend.com did not return a usable page, and southendcharlotte.com is a real-estate agent’s site, not a neighborhood association. We use neither.
