Getting Around North Carolina

North Carolina is wide: the Census Gazetteer’s town points put Murphy in the far west and Nags Head on the Outer Banks about 476 miles apart in a straight line, and Milton in the north and Bald Head Island in the south about 197 miles apart. Straight-line miles are computed, not driving distances; plan on more road time than the map line suggests.
