Things to do › Dog-Friendly State Parks

Which North Carolina state parks allow dogs, using the rule each park publishes on its own page, including the places inside a park where pets are not allowed.

42 of the 43 state parks in our data say pets are allowed on an attended leash; the exact rule for each park is in the table, because it differs by building, beach, pool, ferry and cabin. 1 park does not publish a rule on the page we read, and we label that plainly instead of guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can dogs go on every trail?

Not always. A park can allow pets while barring them from swim beaches, buildings, ferries or cabins, and some trails are steep enough that a park recommends against it. The rule column quotes each park.

Does a leash have to be a certain length?

The rules shown say pets must be on an attended leash, with the maximum length the park names. Read the row for the park you are visiting.

What if a park is marked not confirmed?

It means the park page we read did not publish a pet rule. Call the park or read its page before bringing a dog; we would rather say so than guess.
