North Carolina events › Itineraries › Asheville And The Mountains In Three Days

Short answer: Three days around Asheville adds a downtown day to our two-day weekend: Biltmore and the WNC Nature Center on day one, Chimney Rock on day two, then the Thomas Wolfe Memorial, Asheville Art Museum and River Arts District on day three. Biltmore House & Grounds starts at $110 through January 10, per Biltmore.

  • 3DaysAsheville as the base
  • $110Biltmore House & Grounds, fromthrough Jan 10, per Biltmore
  • $17.00Chimney Rock, one-day adultper the park
  • $20Asheville Art Museum, generalplus tax

How we checked: Biltmore, Chimney Rock, the Thomas Wolfe Memorial, the Asheville Art Museum, River Arts District Artists and the North Carolina Arboretum (each linked in Sources). Road times between stops are road time computed from OpenStreetMap routing, not live traffic. All read on November 3, 2026. Hours, prices, rules, closures and road status change, so check the named agency or business before you rely on them. Anything we could not read is marked Not confirmed where it appears. General guidance on this page is labelled as general guidance. This is not safety, medical or legal advice; where a safety or legal rule appears, the quoted words are the official source’s own.

How This Plan Works

Days one and two are the plan on our Asheville Weekend page, shown here with the hours and prices each operator gave on November 3, 2026. Day three is new and stays inside the city, so it needs no long drive. If you only have two days, use the weekend page; if you have four, add the railroad day in the four-day plan.

The longest drive is day two. Chimney Rock is 55 minutes from Asheville on the Google Maps time we measured, so the day is two drives of under an hour with about two and a half hours at the park by our estimate. Each hop on day three is under 20 minutes by road, and the three-stop city core adds up to about 24 minutes of driving in a day of about six hours on site, by our planning estimates.

  • Stop 1: Chimney RockFrom November 1 through December 31 the gate is open for entry 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and the park closes at 6 pm. • Stop 4: Animal Discovery DenThe park lists the Animal Discovery Den among its attractions. Its hours and what is in it: Not confirmed

Day 3: Downtown Asheville and The River Arts District

  • Stop 1: Thomas Wolfe Memorial52 North Market Street. Open Tuesday to Saturday 9 am to 5 pm; closed Sunday, Monday and state holidays. House tours start at half past each hour and the last leaves at 4:30 pm. Adults $8 + tax, military and seniors (65+) $7 + tax, youth (3 to 17) $1 + tax, ages 2 and under free; Visa and Mastercard only. Thomas Wolfe Memorial
  • Stop 2: Asheville Art MuseumOpen Wednesday to Sunday 11 am to 6 pm; closed Monday and Tuesday. General admission $20 + tax, seniors (65+) $15 + tax, students (6 to 17 and degree-seeking college students with ID) $10 + tax; free for members, active-duty military with ID and children under 6. The museum has no parking of its own; city decks and metered streets are nearby. About 1 minute and 0.2 mile from the Wolfe Memorial (road time computed from OpenStreetMap routing, not live traffic). Asheville Art Museum
  • Stop 3: River Arts DistrictRiver Arts District Artists (RADA) says hundreds of working artists have studios here. The district is back open after Hurricane Helene, per RADA. About 5 minutes and 1.7 miles from the Art Museum (road time computed from OpenStreetMap routing, not live traffic). Studio hours vary by artist: Not confirmed River Arts District Artists | Our River Arts District profile
  • Stop 4 (Optional): North Carolina Arboretum20 Frederick Law Olmsted Way. Open 8 am to 7 pm November through March. Parking is $25 per vehicle; leashed dogs are welcome on trails but not in buildings, per the Arboretum. About 18 minutes and 9.8 miles from the River Arts District (road time computed from OpenStreetMap routing, not live traffic). Winter Lights | NC Arboretum

Plan day three for Wednesday to Saturday. The Wolfe Memorial is closed Sunday and Monday and the Art Museum is closed Monday and Tuesday, so Wednesday through Saturday is the only run when both are open. A workable order is a 10:30 am house tour, the museum at 11:30 am, the River Arts District after lunch, and the Arboretum last if daylight allows. Those clock times are our suggestion, not the operators’. See Eat Near Downtown Asheville And The River Arts District for lunch.

What to Book Ahead

  • BiltmoreTickets for your date, and Candlelight Christmas Evenings separately if you want the evening visit. Biltmore says its tickets include visit date flexibility.
  • Chimney RockThe park recommends reservations for busy weekends and holidays and names weekends in October through early November.
  • Asheville Art MuseumThe museum encourages online tickets and says tickets are released on the 15th of each month and are non-refundable.
  • NC Arboretum Winter LightsThe Arboretum shows tickets on sale. Dates and prices: Not confirmed

If It Rains

Three of the stops are indoors: the Biltmore House visit, the Thomas Wolfe Memorial house tour and the Asheville Art Museum. This is general guidance, not an operator promise. Chimney Rock is the day to move: its home page carried a notice that the park closed early on Saturday, October 10 for inclement weather, and it tells visitors to check chimneyrockpark.com before heading out. If day two looks wet, swap it with day three. Weather and closures on your date: Not confirmed

Pacing The Three Days

Treat the times in this plan as a frame, not a schedule. Biltmore is the biggest block: it is an 8,000-acre estate, and the house, the gardens and Antler Hill Village are far enough apart that Biltmore runs its own parking lots and a shuttle for the house. Its directions page puts the Reception and Ticketing Sales Center three miles from Biltmore House and the house five miles from Antler Hill Village, so a half-day is a realistic minimum and we pencil in about four hours.

Seasons matter in November. Chimney Rock closes its gate for entry at 4:30 pm now, an hour earlier than its March to October schedule, and the Skyline Trail shuts at 5 pm, so a late start on day two costs you the best trail. Day three is the opposite: it fits an easy morning. If you arrive in Asheville on a Tuesday, put the Chimney Rock day first and keep the downtown day for Wednesday or later. Whatever order you pick, check each operator’s page the day before, because every figure here was read on one date.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is not a stop in this plan. Parkway closures change daily and we state none here. Read Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville and check Travel Alerts before you add a Parkway drive to any day.
